Liam Payne, the former One Direction member, has had his cause of death officially confirmed.
The 31-year-old singer tragically passed away on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In connection with his death, five people in Argentina have been charged. The hotel manager, a receptionist, and a friend of Payne are facing manslaughter charges, while two others, including a hotel staff member and a waiter, have been charged with providing cocaine.
Payne’s funeral was held in November in Buckinghamshire, with attendees including his ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy, their son Bear, and his former bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson.
After One Direction went on hiatus, Payne had been building a successful solo career, releasing his debut album “LP1” in December 2019.
During a hearing on December 17 at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court, Senior Coroner Crispin Butler mentioned that figuring out the exact details surrounding Payne’s death “might take some time” due to the ongoing investigations in Argentina. The inquest has been postponed until a pre-inquest review set for November 6.
According to a UK inquest, Payne’s death has been officially classified as “polytrauma.”
