MrBeast, the popular YouTube sensation, just shared some exciting news—he’s engaged to his girlfriend, Thea Booysen!
The 26-year-old star popped the question on Christmas Day, with both their families in on the surprise.
Thea, 27, shared with People, “My family came all the way from South Africa for Christmas, and we decided to celebrate at our place with both families. We were unwrapping gifts, and for the last one, he asked me to close my eyes for a surprise.”
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, explained, “I made a big deal by dropping a large box to create some noise before revealing the actual gift, which had the ring inside. Then, I got down on one knee and proposed.”
I was brainstorming the best way to surprise her and catch her off guard. Since Thea is super close with her family, I wanted to make sure they were part of this special moment. Christmas turned out to be perfect since they were visiting from the other side of the globe.
The two first met in 2022 when he traveled to her home country, South Africa, and bumped into her at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend.
MrBeast shared with People how he felt when he first met his fiancée, recalling the instant connection they had.
He mentioned, “From the moment we were introduced, it was clear how brilliant Thea is. She has such a wealth of knowledge and can dive deep into so many subjects. She shared her passion for writing and her hobbies, and we just clicked. I kept thinking how smart and beautiful she is. I knew right away that I wanted to date her, and luckily, she felt the same way.”
Booysen also shared her thoughts on meeting the social media sensation for the first time.
“When I met him, I was really surprised by how down-to-earth and intelligent he was,” she said. “I always thought YouTubers had a certain persona, but he was genuinely a nice guy without any ego.”
Talking about their wedding plans, the 27-year-old said, “We’re considering having it on an island, away from everyone else. We’re not aiming for a big, flashy wedding. It’ll be nice but definitely intimate, just with close family and friends.”
